PADI Rescue Certification for our staff

Scuba diving South Lombok this week we have also been working on our staff’s scuba certification and been completing the PADI rescue course for some of our staff.

Have a look at our Facebook page and you can find a photo of me, in the background with my handsome helper Munahir along with the 3 pupils in the front, appearing a bit worn out from all of the rescue exercises. It has also been a challenging week for the trainees, being put all the way through their rescue skills and scenarios. Now, at this point, we will send all of them over to Nusa Lembongan for the subsequent portion of their training program. Best of luck guys and then we'll see you soon and dive the southern Gilis together again.

We again enjoyed some awesome South Lombok diving this week with Romero and Sebastian. The two fellows were really lucky and our southern Gili dive sites offered them an awful lot of cool stuff like the pygmy sea horses, painted frog fish, cuttle fish, nudibranches, octopus, double ended pipe fish, millipedes, turtles and crazy much more.

Also an “wow” awesome week for me personally since I experienced my very first earth quake. Not a major one, but still good enough and I sat there being fascinated whilst everybody else jumped outside. Very well I now do understand what to do for the next time. Apart from this, great weather yet again while diving the southern Gilis and a lot of sun, terrific visibility, only very little current, so overall yet another awesome week scuba diving South Lombok.

Fantastic South Lombok Diving at House Reef

south lombok ghost pipe fish
Diving South Lombok at our house reef we’ve spotted a gorgeous white ornate ghost pipe fish. Those amazing little ghost pipe is such a beautiful creature and when the light is right it’s pretty much translucent, and the coolest thing is that it decided to hang around and show itself when we dive our South Lombok house reef.

We have been doing some exploration diving around the southern Gilis to see if we can add on to our multitude of South Lombok dive sites and it looks like we might have found a new dive site to add to the list. Our South Lombok guides came back from diving the southern Gilis after having explored a few dive sites with stories of excellent visibility, unbelievably colorful reefs, frog fish, octopus, cuttle fish, nudibranches, more ghost pipe fish, squid and other discoveries while diving the South Gilis. We still need to dive these new South Lombok dive sites some more and get our bearings straight, but I think soon we’ll be able to add on the our southern Gili dive sites.

Apart from exploring new South Lombok dive sites our guides and our crew have also been doing some training, which is always good for some fun and good laughs. We’ve been brushing up on our crew’s English skills, my Bahasa, some dive theory, and pretty much everything in-between. Diving here in South Lombok we’re actually quite lucky to have such a motivated, fun and enthusiastic crew, but not only that, in general they’re just plain a awesome team.

Have had very little rain to no rain this week and the visibility is stable at around 20m. Hardly any current with no waves have been making it great South Lombok diving.

A Elusive Dugong While Diving South Gilis

diving south gilis nudibranch
We discovered a wealth of the remarkable Ornate Ghost Pipefish while diving the southern Gilis this week. Miranda and John came out with us to dive the South Lombok dive sites and really enjoyed their dives around the South Gilis. They spotted the gorgeous Ornate Ghost Pipefish hiding within some feather stars, and also spotted a number of turtles, nudibranchs, Cuttle fish as well as a whole range of shrimps.

Also Petra join us to dive South Lombok this week came back with a huge smile after diving our South Lombok dive sites. Petra spotted a remarkably delightful Pygmy seahorse, 2 giant moray eels, some lionfish, a Indian ocean Walkman, and of course some turtles, but also got the chance to play within a huge school of sardines at our southern Gili Dive site “The Harbor”.

Our boats crew again have been spotting our elusive dugong swimming on the surface at our South Lombok dive site “The Sands” while we were diving down below, unfortunately we haven’t run into it yet while underwater. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, hopefully sooner or later we will be lucky enough and spot the incredible animal while on our dive.

Diving South Lombok this week the weather has been hot, but we did have one day with rain for a couple of hours. The water has been nice, calm with visibility around 20m and the temperature is steadily around 28 degrees. A little bit of mild current going on, but no waves and South Lombok diving at its best.

Stunning White Leaf Scorpion Fish whili diving Southern Gilis

This week we experienced some beautiful South Lombok diving with a stunning white Leaf Scorpion fish making an appearance. Its recently been a little rainy around the southern Gilis, however everyone is still very much enjoying great southern Gilis diving as well as plenty of laughs on the way.

This week we just had Paul joining us to explore our southern dive sites, unfortunately his wife wasn’t well enough to join. We experienced a fantastic South Lombok diving with lots of awesome marine life around the southern Gils, such as White tip reef sharks, leaf scorpion fish, Nudibranches, Shrimps, Crabs a lot more. Paul was absolutely delighted after his dive and regrets waiting with the diving the southern Gilis until the final day. Actually he said that he would have loved to do much more South Lombok diving and also that he would be back to South Lombok in the very near future.

We needed to do some routine maintenance on our boats, and me along with our South Lombok crew enjoyed some good fun this week digging holes and dragging our boat out of the water. Then we made a day of it with many laughs and a lunch BBQ on the beach. A tough day’s work yet, as usual, the boys made it fun and no one felt really like they had worked at all.

Still a bit rainy around the southern Gilis this week, nevertheless it’s hot and the visibility iaround the southern Gili dive sites is keeping at around 15 meters with nice warm water at 28 degrees C. We certainly have spotted a whole lot this week while diving South Lombok, inclusive of trevally, Tuna, Ornate Ghost pipe fish, Painted Frog fish, Hawks Bill Turtles, Peacock Mantis Shrimp and more.

Join Scuba Divers all over the world for the 2nd yearly PADI Women's Dive Day

Anticipation reigns while the groundwork is underway for PADI Women’s Dive Day 2016, PADI’s 2nd yearly celebration of women in scuba diving, happening on 16 July 2016. This celebration acknowledges women’s contributions to scuba diving all through historical past as well as presents perfect opportunity for even more women to get into the sport of scuba diving.

The basis was laid a year ago where scuba divers from across the world got connected to celebrate PADI’s very first Women’s Dive Day – and also created history along the way! The event assembled in excess of 6,000 scuba divers from 65 nations on all continents – all of taking part in over 335 special events. Today, plans are underway to achieve it for a second time on 16 July 2016 – don’t miss the most awesome celebrations of the year!

Women Icons as well as Legends
Even though scuba diving might be inaccurately thought of as a “man’s sport”, PADI historical past is filled with women scuba diving icons as well as legends who laid the path for today’s scuba divers of either genders, with lots of these icons being a part of last year’s events. For instance, shark authority as well as PADI Course Director Cristina Zenato, who formulated the PADI Caribbean Reef Shark Awareness Distinctive Specialty program and also started off a campaign that led to the total protection for any shark species in the Bahamas, took part by featuring a unique shark dive for qualified women scuba divers as well as an exclusive Discover Scuba® Diving day for women to let them have the possibility to try out scuba diving.

A different iconic individual was Sarah Ward, expert archaeologist and also tutor for the Australian Institute of Maritime Archaeology. Sarah, who dives on-the-job worldwide, states that without her PADI certifications she wouldn’t be in a position to undertake in that which she is in love with. Sarah took part in the 2015 Women’s Dive Day by teaming with an area PADI Dive Shop in Australia for a dive on Long Reef in Sydney’s Northern Beaches together with an all-day seaside barbeque.

On 16 July 2016, PADI Dive Centers and Resorts, dive clubs, as well as other institutions will provide numerous female-friendly dives and events, which range from shark dives to beach cleanups to distinctive speaker engagements. Several PADI Dive Shops will as well provide the chance to try out scuba diving with the PADI Discover Scuba® Diving program. Other ones are going to feature PADI ReActivate™, which provides lapsed scuba divers the possibility to freshen up their scuba skills, and re-discover the hobby they love as well as reactivate their scuba diving certifications!

Southwest Lombok – scuba diving the southern Gili Islands

Try scuba diving around South Lombok! Scuba diving South Gili Islands every diver can find his true dive holiday: from relaxed diving at the southern Gilis up to exciting “adrenalin dives” in Belongas Bay while diving the Magnet. South Lombok is a memorable moment for every scuba diver and offers many dive sites for all skill levels of know-how!

Until not too long ago, southwest Lombok was known mostly to surfers, who enjoy the remarkable reef breaks around the southern coastline and for now diving the southern Gilis is still an insider tip among the diving community. In addition, from the diving it’s also still one of the most beautiful places for spending a relaxing tropical holiday with exceptional sunset views and relaxing walks on the beach.

The southwestern Gilis are exceptional among the other dive locations around Lombok. Here one still finds diving as a distinct experience and exclusive dive sites with the chance to explore undiscovered waters. These new dive sites offer even the well-traveled and veteran diver an astonishing and exciting experience, and due to the great selection of dive sites there is exciting diving for all levels of training.

The south Gili dive sites represent a great cross-section of what Indonesia has to present. One can dive in and be intrigued by turtles, white tip reef sharks, cuttlefish, moray eels and much more. The southern Lombok dive sites offer even the extensively traveled and veteran diver an extraordinary and unique experience, as well as offer fun diving for families and beginner.

Southwest Gili dive sites, such as "The Lighthouse" or "Stairs to Medang" offer immaculate reefs, and are favored with trevallies, barracudas and white tip reef sharks. On the other hand, dive sites like Gili Renggit are made up of vast soft coral growth and are idyllic for macro photographers. The great selection of dive sites will become evident when taking a dive at Batu Gendang or Batu Mandi where you see a landscape of boulders covered with massive corals and you are encircled by sweet lips, napoleon fish, rays and many more.

While diving the southern Gilis you are likely to sight blue spotted stingrays, cuttlefish, scorpion fish as well as a stunning amount of macro life. A little more south in the direction of Bangko Bangko, also the likelihood of seeing turtles and white tip reef sharks are reasonably high. Diving the Southwest Gili Islands offers an ample whole range and plenty of chances for new discoveries!

Strange Creatures at our South Lombok PADI 5* IDC Resort

Scuba Diving Southern Gilis we just had a strange patron to the dive center. He wandered across the street and straight through the gates of our South Lombok Dive Resort and moreover we haven't not figured out what he actually is. We certainly have looked at all of the fish books at our dive center and have determined that he is actually a crab lobster.

Concerning our South Lombok scuba certification week, we wish good luck to Petra who not only just finished her PADI open water course, in addition she also just began her PADI advanced open water course. Petra has had one of the luckiest first dives and seen a huge school of eagle rays, turtles, nudibranches, cuttle fish, shrimps, crabs, pipe fish, peacock mantis shrimp together with plenty more while scuba diving the southern Gilis.

Also diving South Lombok this week, we had a really lovely couple from New Zealand joining us for 5 days Daphne and John. They experienced a fantastic muck dive on our South Lombok dive site “The Sands” where they discovered plenty of macro life including more than 15 types of nudibranches, cuttle fish, octopus, frog fish, sea horse, orangutan crab, squat shrimp together with heaps more.

This week in the weather continues to be terrific while diving South Lombok, plenty of sunshine, fantastic visibility at 30+ meters, as well as some amazing dives!

South Lombok - the undiscovered pearl of Lombok!

Until recently, due to its challenging reef breaks at BangkoBangko and Desert Point, south-west Lombok was only known among surfers. Now this paradise has also been discovered by scuba enthusiasts and vacationers searching for white beaches and relaxation. When the tide reaches its lowest level, you can watch women and children collecting clams, crabs and other "treasures of the sea". On Sundays, the traditional "off day" for the Indonesian community, you can see families with their children enjoying and playing at the beach. Join in the fun and laugh along with them

The roads in south-west Lombok are well maintained, and the scenic drive from Mataram or Lembar is fairly relaxing. The price for transport depends on your talent in bargaining and can vary quite a bit, so make sure you arrange the price before the journey starts.

Even though the clean white sandy beaches of Sekotong are among the best on Lombok, you will not find many travelers on these beaches. Here it's still possible to take relaxing walks along the beach without meeting annoying sellers trying to sell their watches, necklaces and so on. You also can experience the underwater paradise by snorkeling near one of the beaches or one of the many small islands in the bay of Sekotong.

The local people in south-west Lombok haven't been influenced by mass tourism and are very friendly, sometimes curios. The language spoken is "Bahasa Indonesia"and "Bahasa Sasak". Many people also speak basic English and it's no problem for the traveler to communicate his needs. The inhabitants' main source of income in South Lombok is fishing and pearl farming (South Lombok's pearl farms are the main exporter of quality pearls in Indonesia).

The southern Gili Islands – where to stay…

The South Gili Islands are a tropical little place with not much topside goings-on other than maybe renting a motorbike and exploring the shores, snorkeling, swimming, or of course scuba diving. It's quite perfect for couples and families who just want to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of an unspoiled region. The selection of accommodations has developed rather nicely over the last few years and we now find ourselves with a nice choice of hotels and resorts for all budget choices.

There is the Desert Point Lodge, a small basic homestay with Lumbung bungalows for around Rp 250.000/night as well as the Palm Beach Garden with bungalows from Rp 175.000 0 Rp 250.000. Also mainland based is the Bola Bola Paradis. A quaint little Resort/Hotel directly on the beach. Her you can find a restaurant that offers international dishes and rooms ranging from Rp 350.000 - Rp 465.000.

If you’re more about island feeling and boutique resorts, then the Gili Asahan Eco Lodge or the Pearl Beach Resort on Gili Asahan may be the choice for you. Located on the sunrise side of the island the Pearl Beach Resort offer 4 spacious bungalows at the beach and a handful of bamboo bungalows in the garden. It’s very tranquil and relaxed, if you’re looking for a quiet, tropical retreat, this is it. The Eco Lodge offers you the same comforts and tranquility on the sunset side of the island, if you’re a fan of great Italian cuisine, maybe this should be your choice.

If you’re looking for a sense of stylish sophistication, in short, an island paradise that allows you to escape the stressed infrastructure evident in Bali, yet a destination where they you can enjoy an elegant space of comfort and tranquility, complemented by a broad range of facilities and activities, then the brand new ko-ko-mo resort is the place for you. Situated off the southernmost tip of Lombok, ko-ko-mo Gili Gede, a serene and chic resort, overlooks the sparkling aqua seas of the Indian Ocean. The beachfront location of the resort, set on a white sand stretch of beach in a natural cove, provides a stunningly sheltered setting with an outlook over the many beautiful small islands and atolls that dot the ocean off the shores of Gili Gede.
